Associate Account Executive/Surety Broker, Construction Services Group (Edmonton, AB)

As the Associate Surety Account Executive/ Surety Broker with Aon’s Construction Services Group in Edmonton, you are responsible for negotiating with the surety underwriters for the best terms, conditions and competitive pricing for our clients and serving as the key point of contact for client account related activities. This position is an important member of Construction Services team that supports Aon’s distinctive client value offering to our clients. This role encompasses the following responsibilities:

  • Brokering surety programs for all clients including compilation of submissions, matching surety to client, financial analysis, capacity analysis, character analysis and development of brokering strategies;
  • Identifying specific client risk exposure and developing and presenting innovative solutions in support of existing/new business growth;
  • Preparing proposals for surety renewals as well as new business opportunities by analyzing and defining the risk exposure and coverage required;
  • Facilitating accounts by managing clients’ surety programs in a timely, accurate, and professional manner;
  • Keeping Team Account Executives up-to -date on new products, coverages and market trends as directed;
  • Coordinating the efforts of the technical and support staff to service clients effectively and efficiently to deliver seamless service to the client;
  • Developing and delivering surety and industry related presentations/seminars to clients and prospect audiences independently or in partnership with Account Executives;
  • Maintaining a strong knowledge of surety market conditions on a macro level as well as a micro level (i.e. specific understanding of each surety market appetites);
  • Issuing documentation, verifying accuracy and completing checklists;
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with the underwriting community for the ultimate benefit of the client;
  • Managing correspondence, reports and presentations;
  • Willingness to take on additional responsibilities in the day to day operations of the Surety team;
  • Leading by example by demonstrating and sharing with all lines of business the importance of best practices; and
  • Performing additional duties as required, with opportunities to work with your team members on multi-billion dollars client surety accounts.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of surety experience preferred;
  • Strong negotiating skills;
  • Client relationship focused;
  • Must have a strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices;
  • Ability to analyze and review business/corporate financial statements;
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a key member a team and independently;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills;
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to prioritize under pressure of competing deadlines;
  • Exceptional proficiency with the Microsoft Office Package, with an strong expertise with Excel

Education and Professional Development:

  • Post Secondary Degree or equivalent preferred; with a strong focus on Finance, Accounting or Business
  • General Insurance Level 1 is preferred
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and willingness to enroll and complete courses/designations as needed
