The Opportunity

Reporting to the SVP, Risk Solutions, and working closely with business leaders and your peers, we are looking for a Senior Underwriter, Risk Solutions to join our team.  You will be responsible for underwriting for guarantee/warranty programs and fronting risks through Tokio Marine Canada’s extensive national and international client relationship network. It will require a creative, solutions-based approach to underwriting and an affinity for customer service.  Our focus is simple – create the best team of professionals in the business. What You Will Do

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Underwriting of new and existing program business
  • Risk selection and analysis using logical methodical underwriting tools and methods to support business.
  • Building contract wordings, agreements
  • Ensuring all files are well documented and comply with departmental requirements
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with our client partners
  • Market presentations and relationship management ability to help develop business
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues for multi-line approach
  • Grow target business and maintain profitability
  • Ongoing learning and updating of changes in marketplace, insurance trends, and provincial regulations
  • You will also be asked to assist with broader company tasks as needed

Who You Are

You have direct experience in Underwriting for Risk Solutions.  You are team player with a positive attitude who thrives in a consensus culture with an emphasis on collaboration.  You are a self-starter who is excited by the opportunity to jump right in and can come up to speed quickly.  You are comfortable working on a lean team and are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and do the work that needs to be done.

Our new Senior Underwriter will have:

  • A university degree or college diploma plus a minimum of 7 years of experience in underwriting, specialty lines, warranty/guarantee programs, and fronting.
  • Chartered Insurance Professional
  • Experience in GAP/Warranty/F&I Programs
  • Experience with reinsurance and captives
  • Strong analytic mindset
  • Underwriting and development of specialty lines programs (non traditional)
  • A high level of organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, driving for results.
  • Thought leadership and can innovate solutions quickly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working closely with others and enjoy an atmosphere of cross-collaboration.
  • The ability to thrive in a changing environment and be comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams, and Outlook).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English) are required; fluency in French is preferred but not required.
