Aon is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst (Toronto)

As part of an industry-leading team, you will help empower results for our clients by delivering innovative and effective solutions supporting Aon, in Toronto, Ontario.  As a Senior Financial Analyst you will report directly to the Director, Financial Operations.

Your impact as a Senior Financial Analyst

Job Responsibilities

Execute regular ongoing activities for core processes, as assigned, by demonstrating expertise in the execution of these functions.

Accounting Operations

  • Oversee and process underwriter payments. Consolidate cheques / electronic payments. Prepare and / or authorize outgoing wire / EFT payments
  • Own & respond to premium payable queries
  • Settle immediate payments to carriers as authorized by Director, Finance operations and or CFO
  • Perform Fiduciary payable reconciliations of activity between various AP systems / Sub ledgers including investigation and resolution of differences
  • Resolve outstanding items contained in underwriter accounts in an effective and timely manner, in accordance with defined risk levels & aging standards
  • Oversight – Escalate matters that may compromise the risk to the company or the integrity of the balance sheet to management
  • Liaise with various branches and departments within Aon Canada as appropriate, to assist where required
  • Assess current accounting processes and procedures, assist in the design of future state accounting framework and implement process improvements
  • Provide follow up and monitor progress of process improvement implementation plans.
  • Build relationships with other departments and functions to ensure appropriate information flow and understanding of overall process improvement direction.
  • Participate in the monthly balance sheet review & corresponding variance analysis for Canadian Fiduciary AP activities

Treasury Operations

Support Treasury Operations, as required, in the execution of the following responsibilities:

  • Wire Transfers – Process and / or approve wire / EFT requisitions daily in accordance with assigned deadlines, & escalate to achieve resolution if non-conformance occurs.
  • Journal Entries – Prepare required accounting entries to post activities for non-automated transactions to assigned accounts for fiduciary trust accounts, bank accounts, premium payable, debt agreements, etc. daily
  • Assist in reconciliation of Fiduciary bank account when differences occur.

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Month End Close – Execute all activities necessary, pertaining to treasury (cash, clearing of suspense activity), to close each legal entity in Canada, including journal entries, financial analysis of balance sheet & income statement, respond to queries.
  • Liaise with domestic, foreign, & corporate departments, as necessary, to ensure that account activities are maintained in a controlled environment.

Compliance & Control

  • Participate in the Sarbanes Oxley testing program to ensure the maintenance & reporting of an effective control environment
  • Participate in internal / external audit activities, as required, such as Internal audit, SOX audit, external financial audits, VAT audit

Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in special projects & other tasks, as required.

 

You Bring Knowledge and Expertise

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years related job experience.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate sound understanding of key processes and risks to an organization while handling large volumes of transactions
  • Demonstrate an ability to adapt to change & make recommendations, as required.
  • Strong technical proficiency of accounting software and office productivity tools (PeopleSoft, MS Office – Excel, etc.).
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated to execute against priorities and achieve deliverables on a timely basis.
  • Ability to co-operate as a team member, part of a larger corporate organization, and work as a partner with key stakeholders.

Education:

  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting, or Business.
  • Professional accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) or working towards and close to finalisation of one
