THE ORGANIZATION

Alliston, Ontario-based Doner-Horsley Insurance Brokers Ltd. has been serving the insurance and financial services needs for people in the South Simcoe area for over 100 years. Originated by S.W. Knight in the early 1900s, followed by Bob and Don Doner as Doner Brothers Insurance and Ken Horsley as Ken Horsley Insurance and since 1987, Donner-Horsley Insurance.  The service and advice tradition has been continued as Doner-Horsely with Laurie and Blair Hadwen as owners since 2009.  Doner-Horsley’s service areas include but are not limited to: Alliston, Cookstown, Tottenham, New Tecumseth, New Lowell, Creemore, Stayner, Beeton, Angus, Newton Robinson, Bond Head, King City, Barrie, Bradford, Newmarket, Schomberg, Nobleton, Kleinburg, Caledon and Orangeville. THE MANDATE 

As a member of Doner Horsley’s team, the Commercial / Farm Broker is responsible for maintaining and growing the current $1M + commercial / farm property & casualty insurance portfolio.   Business development will be an essential part of this role, in addition to community involvement in support of continuing and nurturing long-term relationships.  The team member will be reporting to the President of the brokerage, working with a collaborative team ready to take the next step in their collective development.

 

LOCATION: Alliston, Ontario (with opportunities to work from home part-time in the future)

COMPENSATION: The compensation structure is open.  It can include a base salary plus commission or only commission, based on current and new business.  The final structure will be dependent on the background and experience of the selected candidate. There is an excellent company benefits package which may include a defined contribution pension plan.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Commercial / Farm Broker will be accountable to: 

  • Prepare proposals for insurers and new clients
  • Review renewals
  • Keep current on underwriting rules and workflow processes
  • Identify client needs, and educating clients of the organization’s insurance products and solutions and advising on insurance matters
  • Build a cohesive team relationship within the service department in order to ensure the client’s needs are met and retention remains a priority
  • Attend agriculture and industry events in a business development capacity

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Grow the current book of business and generate new commercial accts to the brokerage
  • Contact Underwriters and Adjusters to discuss guidelines and policy terms 

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Provide front-line customer service for Commercial / Agricultural Lines policy holders
  • Minimum 3 years experience / exposure to Commercial / Agricultural lines
  • RIBO licensed
  • CAIB or CIP designation or working toward one of more of those designations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients while delivering exceptional service and advice
  • Grow the book by 5%-8% annually
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with the brokerage team 

KEY RESULTS REQUIRED 

The Successful Candidate will: 

  • Retain the current book of business (95%+)
  • Grow the book of business (5%+)
  • Develop a strong, local network within the Doner-Horsley coverage area(s) (activity based)
