ENCON is currently recruiting for and Underwriter (contract) in its Ottawa, Ontario office location.
Position Summary:
ENCON is currently recruiting for an Underwriter in the Special Risks Department on a one year contract.
The successful candidate will be a service-oriented individual, with a positive attitude, strong desire to succeed and an exceptional team player.
Responsibilities:
• Reviews and analyzes submissions
• Identifies and obtains additional information required to conduct a proper analysis of risk including cross-referencing with other departments
• Assesses exposure and determines rates, terms and conditions of coverage in accordance with underwriting guidelines
• Negotiates terms and conditions with brokers
• Signs policies and authorizes transmittal of documents to brokers and markets as required
• Prepares and maintains periodic reports pertinent to the ongoing operation
• Services current accounts
• Provides advice and expertise to other underwriters on underwriting issues
• Develops and maintains an awareness of claims and exposures
• Maintains an awareness of market conditions and profitability initiatives
• Performs other related duties as required
Qualifications
• Post secondary education in insurance, business administration or related discipline
• 3-5 years work experience in Property, E&O (professional liability), CGL (commercial general liability) and/or Property insurance is an asset.
• Working towards or completion of CIP is an asset
• Strong computer skills in Word, Excel and Outlook
• Strong written and verbal French and English
• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively function in a team environment
• Demonstrated analytical abilities
• Excellent customer service skills
