Aon is looking for a Pension Operations Manager, Defined Benefits   (Toronto)

As part of an industry-leading team, you will help empower results for our clients by delivering innovative and effective solutions supporting Pension Administration, in Toronto, Ontario.  As a Pension Operations Manager, you will report directly to the Benefits Operations Manager.

Your impact as a Pension Operations Manager, Defined Benefits  

The Pension Operations Manager (POM) supports ongoing delivery for aligned domain(s) through issue resolution, change requests, and standardized processes that contribute to achievement of Service Levels (SLAs). This position involves heavy client interaction, vendor management as well as coaching and mentoring of staff. The POM could lead projects and Change Requests. The POM will identify and resolve issues through root cause analysis and then implement solutions. This role will lead and sponsor process creation, improvement initiatives, and changes within the domain. Higher level positions may work across multiple areas of the domain with implementation managers, Service Delivery Managers, finance leads and other associates.

Job Responsibilities

Domain Knowledge

  • Defined Benefit Pension Administration subject matter expert for their clients ongoing processes
  • Daily processing of manual pension calculations
  • Periodic processing of PAs, PARs, PSPAs etc.
  • Educate associates and clients while serving as a subject matter expert.

Client Relationship Management

  • Support client or service transitions, gaining an understanding of processes and documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with the client and internal partners for analysis/resolution.
  • Participate in meetings to discuss issues identified and impact on service delivery.
  • Lead client interaction and facilitation on client touch-points.

Project Management

  • Create detailed functional business requirement specifications and ensures proper testing hand-offs for integration testing.
  • Monitor the scope throughout the project and ensure the scope is baselined, and that any changes requested to the scope are evaluated for project impact and business need for projects.
  • Identify downstream processes and impacts for projects.
  • Provide status reports and communicate changes in process for project assignments.
  • Assist in post-project Quality Assurance (QA) and knowledge management.
  • Responsible for estimating, scheduling and directing all work activities related to projects.
  • Lead complex inter-domain projects.

Ongoing Operations

  • Work with third-party providers (both AON partners and client partners) to ensure seamless process delivery.
  • Lead process improvements for existing processes and support creation of new processes with emphasis on up/down stream impacts.
  • Identify issues; drive change for related improvements.
  • Identify and resolve escalations or complex issues with strong emphasis to associated patterns, trends, and root cause analysis.
  • Responsible for meeting aligned SLAs.
  • Guide and support client delivery for new and existing associates.
  • Determine when inquiries are beyond the scope of responsibilities of Hewitt and/or team and escalate as appropriate.
  • Support the internal and external Change Request process, including scoping and costing.
  • Responsible for team audits and training.
  • Assist with documentation and lead or support maintenance of release notes/training.
  • Support formal internal and external audits.
  • Support and provide investigation on regulatory and compliance issues (if applicable to Domain) and ensure reporting of same to management.
  • Represent domain in meeting with other teams/domains to develop/refine process execution.

You Bring Knowledge and Expertise

Formal Education & Certification

  • BA, BS in Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or equivalent degree or work experience required.
  • PPAC or CEBS preferred

Knowledge & Experience

  • 3-5 years of work experience in Defined Benefit pension administration or related processes.
  • Solid federal pension and pension tax legislative knowledge and research abilities.
  • Strong client and vendor communication and management skills.
  • Experience with project/implementation work.
  • Advanced understanding of client requirements and provides advice and counsel.
  • Ability to identify and close gaps in processes and procedures within and across domains.
  • Intermediate client communication skills required.
  • Ability to apply project methodology.
  • Support internal and external controls.
  • Demonstrated influencing skills.

Technical Skill

  • Proficiency with MS Project, Excel, Access and Word.
  • Experience with pension administration systems, strong spreadsheet competencies and math aptitude required.
  • Project management skills.
  • Basic understanding and ability to use Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) Change tools.
  • Advanced knowledge and ability to use requirements gathering tools.

Work Conditions:

  • Occasional evening and weekend work to meet deadlines.
  • Frequent computer use at workstation up to two hours at a time or for extended periods of time.
  • Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor.
  • Daily contact with clients-whether directly aligned to project work or for developing the client relationship.
  • Access information using a computer and related components and peripherals.
  • Participation in training sessions, presentations, and meetings.
  • Potential travel of up to 10%.
  • Work with global and offshore resources may require flexible work hours.
