The Opportunity: Human Resources Manager

The Human Resources Manager will assist in the development and implementation of HR initiatives, projects and policies in the area(s) of recruitment, employee relations, performance management, communications, health and safety, training, payroll, and attendance management. This role will have primary ownership over the culture of the organization, and will be expected to stay updated on the pulse of employee engagement in the business. This role will be primarily supporting Jones DesLauriers Insurance Management Inc., but will also provide guidance and support our other Navacord Partners in Eastern Canada.

Career Scope:

1. Partner closely with the local leadership team providing professional HR leadership in short and long term strategies for the organization, and be ultimately accountable for all HR activity within the JDIMI business

2. Responsible to maintain and foster a positive work environment and culture within our organization

3. Responsible to manage a team of HR professionals, as well as oversee, the Mailroom and Reception duties within the office

4. Serves as a trusted advisor and acts as a key resource to all colleagues by handling questions, interpreting policies, helping resolve work-related issues/concerns and escalating situations to the SVP, Human Resources as needed

5. Remains up to date on HR legal trends in the marketplace in order to ensure the accurate development, implementation and interpretation of HR policies and procedures

6. Oversees our Producer to Partner Program as a Program Director which includes: monitoring producer performance through the program, assisting in quarterly performance discussions, coordinating training/education for the program and supporting business leaders in transitioning producers from a draw to full commission structure

7. Coordinate with Property Management to ensure office space is maintained, and ensure our building and work environment support future workforce needs

8. Manage annual compensation plan and performance-management process working closely with leadership team and managers

9. Participates in conducting salary surveys by job class and location

10. Updates and maintains the HR system to reflect all employee changes on an on-going basis. In addition, maintains HR information related to payroll, benefits, staff changes, documents forms and policies, etc. as required

11. Prepares HR-related communications

12. All other tasks/projects as assigned including ad-hoc reporting

You will also oversee and be held accountable for the following:

•Recruitment: sourcing and screening resumes, update and maintain a current database of all job descriptions and job postings, scheduling interviews, coordinating declines, reference checks and offer letter preparation
•Onboarding: ensuring onboarding packages are delivered, orientation is coordinated, touch base discussions are scheduled, and other first-day items/requirements are implemented
•Health and Safety: records-management and committee meeting minutes; compliance; ensuring a safe work environment; member of the Health & Safety Committee
•Organization Charts: ensure they are updated on a regular basis incorporating all structural changes
•Event Coordination: support our various committees with their initiatives and assist where necessary. Our committees include: the Social Committee, Education Committee, Health and Safety Committee, and Charity Committee.
•Learning and Development: facilitate “Lunch ‘n Learn” workshops, general training programs, management training, technical training, etc.

You Must Have:

•A college or university degree, together with a minimum of 5 to 7 years of proven HR experience and knowledge with some leadership experience
•Completed or working towards the CHRL designation
•Sound knowledge and understanding of employment/payroll legislation along with HR processes, programs and policies
•Prior experience working with Ceridian/ADP is an asset
