Full-Time Director of Finance, Group Benefits & Retirement Division

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Navacord Corp. is seeking a Finance Director to join our Canadian-owned brokerage, which consists of several insurance broker partners spanning across Canada. The Finance Director would be responsible for generating key financial reports and metrics for the Senior Management Team for the Group Benefits & Retirements division of the business. Key finance support to the Benefits businesses for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, including the annual budget, forecasting future financial trends, performing variance analysis, and working with Navacord on variance ad hoc projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for full accounting cycle, credit, finance and asset management, and all financial close and reporting cycle
  • Responsible for adherence to accounting standards, internal finance controls and government regulations and communicating the impact of changes in those regulations
  • Oversee all transactions related to receivables, payables, payroll and financial reporting
  • Coordinate with various broker partners to create an annual budget with deep understanding of the Benefits revenue and compensation models
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, annual and quarterly financial reports and with respect to profits, trends, costs and compliance with budgets, for each individual Benefits business as well as consolidated Navacord Benefits division
  • Project liquidity levels, sources & uses of funds and credit metrics
  • Assist the Navacord SVP, Group Benefits & Retirements, branch, and department managers in analyzing financial data and recommend corrective action, when applicable
  • Drive an efficient, effective and comprehensive process for developing financial plans, policies, and forecasts, both short term and long term, that link to the strategic objectives for the value added division
  • Enhance the finance team’s ability to deliver value-added insights via proficient data analysis, data capture and utility
  • Technical accounting of acquisitions, integration of financial reporting into Navacord, as well as track and report on acquired businesses to expected results
  • Assist with all internal and external audits
  • Work closely with Navacord Finance Director on various Navacord projects (ie. accounting integration of new acquisitions, system migration, etc.) and achieving consistency of Finance across Navacord partners
  • Complete various ad-hoc projects as needed, including external presentation support and performance reports for Senior Management
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with lending institutions and insurance companies
  • Partner with leaders from other departments and identify revenue and cost drivers

REQUIREMENTS:

  • University degree (likely in business or finance) or equivalent work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Minimum of ten years’ experience working in complex fast-paced environments.
  • Experience in a Senior Manager role at an at an audit firm or a comparable corporate senior accounting leadership/controller role – technical accounting expertise is a critical requirement
  • Experience using accounting information systems
  • Aptitude to prioritize and multi-task effectively
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel, proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Insurance experience and Applied Epic experience is a plus
  • Solid interpersonal and verbal written communication skills
  • Ambitious and hardworking
