What’s the ask?

Reporting to the VP, Brokering & Insurer Relationships, the Director, Commercial Insurance is responsible for development and execution of our wholesale strategy; a key contributor to our commercial insurance strategy; and to ensure the effective management of day to day operations of  commercial marketing and small business solutions sales department.

The Director will collaborate with the managers and help lead the implementation of business strategies, meet sales targets, ensure high levels of client satisfaction and retention and engagement of team, best practice reviews and system improvement projects, and maintaining profitability of the department.

Key Responsibilities:

Market Relationships

  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with key carriers, to enable strategic partnerships

Underwriting

  • Develop and execute the strategy, with a focus on revenue growth
  • Lead the team in pursuit of profitable growth, operational excellence and superior technical underwriting
  • Fostering positive working relationships to deliver exceptional customer service to all stakeholders
  • Participating in projects and special initiatives
  • Provide subject matter expertise, industry trends and guidance on complex commercial insurance topics
  • Auditing

Staffing

  • Engaging, coaching, motivating and mentoring the team
  • Accountable for ensuring the department has the resources, processes, structure and training to drive overall client satisfaction and retention and meet sales targets
  • Actively lead a team by providing coaching and mentoring; align, assess and manage performance expectations through the Individual Performance Plan process; reinforce high performance behaviors and engagement including talent management and succession planning.

Business Development

  • Launch and manage sales strategies.
  • Business development of products to promote growth
  • Set and monitor tracking processes for new business / marketing initiatives.

What does it take?

  • University/college degree preferred or related experience;
  • 5+ years’ experience in the P&C industry in Commercial Lines
  • RIBO license or ability to obtain
  • CAIB, CIP or CRM designation or working towards
  • Proven experience managing people
  • Understanding of policy wordings, pricing and establishing underwriting authorities
  • Experience building and delivering strategic initiatives
  • Ability to work well under pressure, individually and as part of a team;
  • Exceptional decision making, analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Demonstrated success in client retention, process improvement and profitability;
  • Strong customer service and caring attitude;
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to juggle multiple demands to achieve priorities and required results;
  • Proven ability to develop high performance teams;
  • Ability to lead teams through change management
  • Collaborative and inclusive leadership style with ability to support the growth of all staff
