POSITION OVERVIEW:
Jones DesLauriers Insurance Management Inc. (JDIMI) is looking for a highly motivated individual to join an exciting team of management and staff dedicated to providing innovative solutions and services. This role is responsible for the overall strategy in 3 main areas; Large Specialty and Mid-Market Commercial, Small Business Commercial and Market Relationships. Essentially the entire client experience is under the responsibility of the Director, Commercial Insurance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director, Commercial Insurance will be responsible for working alongside the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Commercial Account Directors to deliver the strategic vision of the brokerage through the implementation and management of sound operational practices by:

Leadership:
 Responsible for the overall profitability of the Commercial Division
 Lead a team of 5 Account Directors (People and Technical Leaders) in our business in addition to a team of experienced Account Managers
 Collaborate and lead the Account Directors to support and develop a high performing teams
 Leading, driving and supporting commercial business operations through JDIMI’s overall strategy, operating plan, administrative budgets and processes
 Exhibiting leadership style that fosters a culture of innovation, creativity, accountability and collaboration
 Performing financial measurements and analysis to evaluate and establish the operational matrix assessing JDIMI’s business operations and complexity to determine/forecast hiring decisions
 Determine staffing needs for the Mid-Market Commercial, Small Business Commercial departments, and allocate compensation budget accordingly based on business needs

Market Relationships:
 Taking ownership of market relationships and program development
 Educate our staff on new products offered by various markets
 Assist the Commercial team with finding the correct markets for hard-to-place risks
 Meet with market contacts regularly to ensure that relationships are well-maintained
 Escalate business accounts where necessary

Business Operations:
 Developing and establishing operating policies consistent with the COO’s strategic vision and objectives and insuring their adequate execution
 Ensure that our EPIC client management system is audited, kept up to date, and is generating reports to guide our client experience
 Prepare board packages for the COO, which outline the performance of the Commercial Team
 Leading the client experience through innovative IT solutions and operational best practices
 Directing internal operations to achieve budgeted results and other financial criteria
 Strategically identify problems/threats, analyzing risks and assessing outcomes related to potential solutions
 Appraising and evaluating results of overall operations for quality control regularly and systematically
 Safeguarding company’s best practices while ensuring legal compliancy and establishing new ones to stay competitive in the insurance marketplace
 Participating in the development and preparation of short-term and long-range plans and budgets based upon broad organization goals and objectives
 Strong collaboration with Risk Control and Claims experts

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
 Minimum 8 years of experience at leadership/senior management level preferably in an insurance brokerage/company setting
 Bachelor degree in Business Management or B.A. Economics
 CIP / FCIP designation an asset
 In-depth knowledge of insurance brokerage business practices and processes
 Understand how products and services impact client needs and develop processes to improve quality
 Strong initiative, leadership and strategic thinking abilities
 Ability to work independently and with all levels of the organization
 Exceptional communication, collaboration, and negotiation skills required to affect change and to build effective working relationships.
 Solid knowledge and understanding how products and services impact customer needs and develop processes to improve quality
 Previous experience working with EPIC is an asset
 Ability to be a self starter with strong written and oral communication skills as well as organizational skills
 Advanced skills in Outlook, Excel, Word
