Job Overview

Working under minimal supervision, the Data Analyst – Claims is responsible for applying Mathematical and Statistical analysis to Claims data in various systems to identify relationships, problems/issues within the data and provide areas for improvement. This role will provide timely and accurate information and reports to support decision making.

Job Responsibilities

  • Researches, extracts and manipulates complex data from all relevant sources
  • Identifies and understands new and emerging patterns
  • Provides input into the development and maintenance of accurate metrics
  • Contributes to the development and management of Claims’ strategic plans
  • Analyses financial information and other data to develop and monitor business performance metrics
  • Liaises with internal and external stakeholders – including Corporate Actuarial, Data Analytics, Executives, and Legal & Claims – on budgeting, billing, forecasting and performance
  • Communicates and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders through producing reports; meetings, correspondence and presentations; promoting continuous improvement
  • Provides recommendations on improving the utilization of resources and other operational improvement
  • Performs other duties as required
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a data analyst in a P&C insurance environment
  • Undergraduate university degree in a quantitative discipline (i.e. accounting, finance, statistics, economics)
  • Strong functional knowledge of P&C insurance Claims lines of business
  • Expert proficiency in MS Excel, especially with: advanced formulas; pivot tables and charts
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify relationships, problems and issues
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments in a timely manner
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate at the right level of complexity for the audience
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
  • Knowledge of MicroStrategy, ClaimCenter and TeamThink a definite asset
