Commercial Auto / Fleet Underwriter
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the Commercial Automobile underwriting team.
The successful candidate will be team oriented with very strong technical and communication skills and the ability to work independently. The successful candidate will be joining a team responsible for underwriting quotes, renewals, new business and endorsements.
The successful candidate will be part of a team that is responsible for the underwriting both fleet and garage business on a National level.
Responsibilities
- Assessing and evaluating new and existing auto business for a broad class of risks from simple to complex including garage, and fleets.
- Underwriting within authority, seeking approval when not through a referral process
- Providing technical support to both external and internal partners
- Underwriting and pricing new business applications, endorsements, and renewals within set binding authority to grow and maintain a profitable book of business across all provinces.
- Handling a wide range of complexity from straightforward to complex commercial lines automobile business
- Negotiating the terms and conditions of coverage including pricing on renewals, new business quotes and other midterm requests from external partner
- Preparing concise referrals including recommended action for renewals and new business beyond authority.
- Developing and maintaining strong external relationships, helping to team to meet production goals.
- Maintaining an awareness of market trends, pricing levels and legal requirements.
- Providing service to customers in a prompt and efficient manner within corporate timeframes.
Requirements:
- Strong business relationship skills
- Strong customer-focused and service-oriented skills
- CIP/FCIP designation or working towards completion
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Works well under pressure and within deadlines in a growing and evolving organization.
Technical Skills:

- Competent proficiency in fleet and garage underwriting, minimum of 5 years experience is preferred
- Experience in underwriting and pricing a broad range of industry segments
- Experience with underwriting on a national basis is preferred but not required.
- Experience with arranging, evaluating, and implementing loss control inspections and recommendations.
- Experience underwriting commercial auto fleet is a requirement
