Your Opportunity: Québec Claims Manager

Location: Montreal, QC

Employment Type: Regular, Full-Time

We are looking for a dynamic self starter with a natural ability to lead people to join our Claims Management Team. Utilizing previous experience and established corporate philosophies, policies, procedures and standards, the successful candidate will plan, organize, guide, and evaluate the activities of the Claims teams for the Montreal office.   He or she will be a mentor and coach with excellent communication and relationship-building skills, the ability to develop and engage a high performance team of professionals and be personally committee to exceptional customer service. This position will require some travel.

 Your Impact:

  • Provide the day to day management of claims staff, including establishing performance objectives; conducting timely performance evaluations, providing ongoing coaching, development, constructive discipline and recognition.
  • Conduct interviews, select, hire, and train new claims staff members.
  • Conduct file audits, manage claims expenses, monitor training programs, prepare reports and ensure claims resolution activities comply with legislative and regulatory requirements and Sovereign quality standards and policies.
  • Participate in the development of corporate claims and office annual business plans, budgets and strategies in conjunction with Assistant Vice President, Claims, and office management team.
  • Manage and lead the development and maintenance of positive, collaborative and productive relationships with staff from other offices and Sovereign General departments.
  • Foster relationships with external business partners (brokers, lawyers, contractors, etc.).
  • Communicate and ensure Sovereign customer service standards are met.
  • Provide technical support and guidance on the management and settlement of files.
  • Oversee large complex files and liaise with the Strategic Resource Group (SRG) Claims; on files exceeding office authority.
  • Participate in meetings, mediations, trials and Examinations for Discovery.

Your Expertise:

  • A minimum of 10 years claims experience with 3 minimum years of managerial experience.
  • Hold a valid AMF adjuster’s permit.
  • Bilingual in English and French essential.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking capability.
  • Adept at decision-making, problem solving and negotiation.
  • Some travel is required.
