Full-Time Business System Analyst

Position Summary

Reporting to the VP of Information Technology, the Business System Analyst will be responsible for partnering with key stakeholders to ensure that appropriate processes are embedded into the Operation. The Business System Analyst can make everyone more productive by creating custom workflows, validation rules, mapping, modeling, designing and more. The role will require the ability to quickly develop an in-depth knowledge of aha systems and integrations and how they support the business model.

The Business System Analyst will be able to support development while also understanding our business needs and, often being able to translate from one group to another.

Primary Duties:

  • Identify effective solutions for business software system issues
  • Monitor company systems status and report any progress or changes
  • Report common patterns, questions, and other issues to management
  • Recommend solutions for improving and restructuring the system
  • Assess company performance, information, and plans by conducting regular systems tests and analysis
  • Support Development team with Production Support and development projects whether it is with requirements analysis, translation into technical design and/or demos of new and revised functionality
  • Research and estimate costs of upgrades and improvements
  • Establish specifications for new projects by developing project goals, phases, and budget
  • Responding to internal and third-party stakeholder’s questions, concerns or challenges related to any system in place at aha
  • Resolving product or service problems and client’s needs and challenges as required. This includes clarifying the need, determining cause, selecting and explaining the best solution, making recommendations, resolving where possible and escalating if required
  • Communicating changes and problems with the IT Team and communicating resolutions with the business, including doing demonstrations of new functionality
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to elicit requirements and effectively plan for, manage and communicate requirements and applicable system designs
  • Modeling and documenting project requirements, including workflow, user interface, data models, system designs, and quality assurance
  • Developing test strategies and test plans for the execution of test plans in conjunction with business units, QA Lead, and the Project Manager
  • Conducting research and providing advice to other team members regarding the selection, application and implementation of business systems and management tools
  • Model systems and data to a logical level, user interface design, and prototyping, decision tables/trees, data flows
  • Lead design sessions in documenting and designing new systems functionality and enhancements
  • Writing unambiguous, verified requirements to a testable level (functional and non-functional requirements)
  • Working with the QA Lead and the rest of the IT team to ensure all changes are tested effectively before moving into production

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • MANDATORY: Minimum of 3 years relevant P&C Insurance
  • Ability to take ownership, accountability and initiative in fast paced environment
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong relationship and customer service skills
  • Excellent technical design, modeling, and documentation skills
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of risk management and enterprise risk strategy and practices, quality assurance practices and user testing
  • A university degree, college diploma or certification in a related field with advanced knowledge of best practices employed by the IIBA and BABOK
  • Experience with data mapping, particularly with Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)
  • Five years’ experience in process design and information technology business solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to use innovative and effective methods to analyze data and provide effective reporting to the business
  • Ability to write business requirements that translate to Agile user stories
  • Familiarity with reading and understanding Java, CSS/HTML, NoSQL code in order to effectively design valuable business solutions
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Knowledge of technology system interfaces and data integration; networks, operating systems
