BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE MANAGER

We currently have a full-time position available for a Business Intelligence Manager in our Business Intelligence department, based out of our Edmonton office. The Business Intelligence Manager applies strong business acumen to explore and analyze information, question existing assumptions and processes, and communicate informed conclusions and recommendations in a comprehensive format.  This individual will lead a team that turns data into information, information into insight, and insight into business decisions.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Data Strategy and Governance

  • Operationalize and evolve the existing data strategy to ensure that data is valued as a strategic asset and is an integral element of decision making at Peace Hills.
  • Be a thought leader on how data and analytics can be leveraged within Peace Hills.
  • Inform data or system procurement decisions to enhance future analytical capabilities.
  • Work closely with different business functions and identify new analytics opportunities or use cases.
  • Prioritize and coordinate data or information requests.
  • Drive Data Governance activities within the organization to ensure that data is available and reliable to support Business objectives.

Business Intelligence

  • Build, improve and maintain the existing business intelligence (BI) environment that includes existing suite of Power BI reports
  • A technical expert on designing and developing reports and dashboards to support recurring business needs.
  • Educate and train business users with adopting the appropriate report or data product in meeting their needs.

Data Engineering

  • Build and maintain complex dataflows to create large datasets from multiple data sources.
  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple data sources, reconcile conflicts or data quality issues, and present them within the correct business context.
  • Ability to clean and validate raw data to make it usable for business intelligence and reporting.
  • Leverage external or publicly available data sources alongside internal datasets to adequately baseline findings.

Management

  • Coach and grow other analytics professional(s) with clear direction and proactive leadership, strategic assignment of responsibilities, and other training opportunities.
  • Closely work with actuarial team, IT, other business units and external partners

Data Science

  • Apply a variety of data science techniques and algorithms to build out complex models and data driven solutions.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) and present results back to the business in a clear and concise manner.
  • Select features, building and optimizing classifiers or regression models using machine learning techniques.
  • Process, clean, and verify the integrity of data used for ad-hoc analysis.
  • Various other duties as required.

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years people leadership experience, preferably leading analytics or reporting teams championing data management, governance, and strategy within an organization.
  • Degree in a statistical, mathematical, or technical field (i.e., engineering, computer science) or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholder groups including executives and senior management.
  • Strong working knowledge of tools like Power BI, SQL, Python, QGIS, Excel, SQL Mgmt. Studio, etc.
  • Comfortable presenting to senior leaders – ability to be articulate and succinct when presenting ideas, use cases, findings, and updates to business leaders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to positively influence peers to achieve a desired result.
  • Strong analytic and diagnostic skills with a problem-solving mindset.
  • Experience embedding continuous improvement to processes to augment the speed and quality of analytics delivery.
  • Experience working with IT to plan and build a technology infrastructure supporting business intelligence and advanced analytics capabilities.
  • Insurance industry experience desired.
  • Experience in data analytics, strategy consulting, or project management roles.
