Broker; Financial Services Group – Calgary, AB (Job ID 2408116)

Aon’s Financial Services Group is looking for a dynamic team player to round out their team. The ideal candidate should have 3+ years experience (Directors’ & Officers’, employment practices, fiduciary and crime experience is an asset), good time management, presentation and communication skills. A background in finance and/or legal is also an asset but not a requirement.

As a Broker your key responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as a point of contact within the broking team for specific clients to provide specialist advice to the client and client team;
  • Providing advice to clients and colleagues on available coverage and capacity, potential coverage enhancements and market progress within scope of responsibility;
  • Working in partnership with the client team to ensure client needs and expectations are met;
  • Contributing to on-going client satisfaction, retention and profitability;
  • Understanding clients’ coverage needs, collecting and analysing relevant information to identify risk transfer solutions;
  • Providing advice to clients and colleagues on the scope of coverage available for different products to establish the appropriate product that meets the clients’ coverage needs;
  • Reviewing and quality checking insurance documentation at a pre-determined stage in the process to establish whether the selected product accurately reflects clients’ coverage requirements;
  • Responsibility for negotiating the best prices and capacity for desired cover where appropriate;
  • Ensuring a full technical and quality check has been completed on all work;
  • Liaising with colleagues and the insurance market on any issues arising;
  • Working with other professionals on an individual account or a portfolio of accounts to ensure that relevant information is shared among appropriate individuals and required actions are taken to meet clients’ needs;
  • Identifying appropriate channels for risk placement based on clients’ market security guidelines and other requirements;
  • Negotiating terms and conditions of placement with lead underwriters, obtain quotes, and handle underwriter queries (and requests) for information;
  • Ensuring complete placement by negotiating with support underwriters, handling underwriter queries and requests for information;
  • Creating, maintaining and managing long-term business relationships with underwriters to enhance service delivery, establish new opportunities for risk placement or facilitate the settlement and payment of claims;
  • Understand and provide guidance on insurer differentiators;
  • Contributing in supporting the effective delivery of global service through network relationships, where appropriate;
  • Providing advice to clients and colleagues on market developments and share knowledge of market trends to enhance the overall value proposition;
  • Supporting business development initiatives, as directed;
  • Review of market submissions and presentations for new business and renewals to ensure that they effectively and correctly present the client’s risk to the market;
  • Ensuring that appropriate members of staff are aware of all risks with warranties. Review status ensuring warranties are met;
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and business procedures;
  • Adhering to the standards, procedures and best practices of Aon;
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time.

As a Broker your skills and qualifications will include:

  • Ability to develop credible relationships with clients, the insurance market and the Aon network;
  • Understanding of industry, its core insurable risks and appropriate insurance solutions and markets;
  • Understanding of relevant non-core insurable risks and appropriate Aon contracts
  • Strong presentation skills;
  • Negotiating and influencing skills;
  • Appropriate technical insurance knowledge;
  • Analytical and logical way of working;
  • Good understanding of compliance;
  • Demonstrate integrity and professionalism inspiring trust and respect from colleagues and of the insurance market;
  • Ability to work as part of a team but also able to work alone and manage own time appropriately;
  • Ability to be flexible and react to quickly changing circumstances;
  • Energetic and focused on producing the best deal for the client;
  • General Insurance Level 1 a must.

What we’re looking for in you

An individual who has a working knowledge of the Executive lines market practices and dynamics, with some experience of managing client relationships. We are looking for good analytical and problem solving skills, good interpersonal skills, effective communication and presentation skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
