Position Summary

Northbridge is seeking a high energy and resourceful learning professional as an Underwriting Learning Specialist who will be responsible for the design, development, implementation and evaluation of effective learning solutions within underwriting.

A key responsibility of this role will be assisting with the implementation of an underwriting education program and skills gaps training for Automobile, with a national approach. This role will participate in the audit process to help identify opportunities for learning.

The Underwriting Learning Specialist will conduct needs assessments and based on business goals and employee development plans will provide recommendations to ensure a meaningful employee learning experience.

What you will be doing:

  1. Act as a trusted advisor for business partners and subject matter expert (SME) developing relationships and collaborating across the organization to identify needs and recommend solutions aligned to business objectives.
  • Utilize the audit process for data collection to conduct training assessments.
  • Analyze performance gaps and immediate/future training needs for regional underwriting.
  • Establish underwriting development objectives and expected results for training programs.
  • Understand expectations for all underwriting training and establish training objectives to support those needs.
  • Develop and implement skills assessment training.3. Manage, design, develop and implement end-to-end solutions for self-directed, online, virtual (webinar) and classroom learning including course outlines and required support materials.

  • Support the implementation of the training programs by external training providers or internal subject matter experts.
  • Support regional offices in the delivery of technical underwriting training.
  • Support in building and delivering broker technical underwriting training.
  • Establish and maintain a course library.
  1. Responsible for developing the foundational training for the trainee program.
  2. Develop evaluation tools for feedback on effectiveness and to measure knowledge transfer during learning and post training.
  3. Collaborate with Learning & Development team members to create and define best practices.
  4. Participate in the audit process to help identify opportunities for learning.
  5. Other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field (ideally adult education / training)
  • 10+ years of experience in the Commercial Insurance Industry, specifically Commercial Auto
  • Ideal candidate will have National knowledge of the auto insurance industry and rules
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of underwriting philosophy, policy contracts, rating programs, risk information sources, underwriting/technical manual information, statuary constraints, and computer workflow procedures
  • Excellent presentation skills are required with the ability to speak in front of large or small audiences; Must have the ability to field a variety of questions from participants
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required with a proven ability to develop and maintain a strong network of individuals and groups; Must have the capability of providing the information, resources, and support as needed
  • 2+ years of experience in instructional design creating blended solutions for technical, functional and soft skills training is preferred
  • CIP or FCIP designation is preferred
  • Competent in eLearning authoring tools Articulate Storyline and Adobe Captivate is an asset; Ability and willingness to learn if no current experience
  • Certification or background in Adult Education is a strong asset
  • Experience with virtual classroom software WebEx/Live Meeting and/or Adobe Connect is an asset
  • Audit experience is a definite asset

* This position will require infrequent travel to meet with customers, regional offices, brokers, to attend industry events and off-site training workshops (fewer than five days per month) and attend inter-regional training and audits (fewer than four times per year and no more than four days at a time).
