Full-Time Surety Claims Analyst
Job Description
The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating, analyzing and resolving contract surety claims (mainly under Performance Bonds and Labour and Material Payment Bonds) originating from Western, Central and Atlantic Canada. The incumbent will also be responsible for performing complex contract analyses, analyzing the financial status of construction companies, assessing liability and loss payables under the respective bonds and perform comprehensive contract accounting for the projects. He/she will communicate coverage positions or issues with underwriters, brokers and insureds, determining appropriate reserves, monitoring construction project cash flow, retaining the services of external legal counsel (when necessary), as well as preparing reports and recommending appropriate course of action based on merits of case law.
Qualifications:
- University degree in law (LL.B or J.D)
- Excellent knowledge of civil litigation
- Call to the Bar is an asset
- Minimum 3+ years previous business experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Innovative, creative and results oriented
- Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple demands and changing priorities while delivering results
- Strong investigative and analytical skills
- Strong problem solving and decision making ability
- Strong negotiation skills
- Ability to acquire knowledge of relevant insurance trends and developments
- Advanced knowledge of MS office with strong Excel and Word skills
- Working knowledge of civil litigation is an asset
