Job Summary Property Damage Claims
Investigate and settle relatively complex property claims. Provide quality service and ensures prompt and equitable settlement of claims in line with Corporate policies and standards.
Major Duties
• Investigate complex property claims, in-person. Evaluate each claim, establish reserves and ensure prompt and equitable settlements in line with Corporate policies and standards. Develop an action plan for conducting investigations and determine necessary contacts, interviews and/or other information required to clarify and justify the claim.
• Document the claim file by collecting and securing appropriate reports and statements from appraisers, third party adjusters, claimants, insureds, witnesses, police, and any other pertinent experts to determine liability and coverage. Analyze the information gathered, interpret insurance policy wordings, determine coverage, and assess damage and/or liability. Determine when sufficient information has been gathered to close the investigation.
• Within established authority limits, negotiate with insureds, claimants, lawyers, and insurers to settle claims. Compose claims reports to outline findings and settlements. If necessary, formulate recommendations for further action. As required, attend court proceedings or hearings to provide information on claims. Acts in a consultative capacity on property or casualty claims matters.
• Maintain current knowledge of insurance products as well as appraisal or investigation techniques and services. Identify process improvement needs and recommends changes to policies or procedures to maintain quality service and competitiveness. Determine and/or establish key measures to monitor personal productivity and technical quality.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
• University degree or College Diploma.
• 5 to 7 years of related work experience.
• Completion of or progress towards CIP.
• Previous Field Claims experience.
• Licensed to operate a motor vehicle (good driving record).
• Computer literate on E-mail and MS Office products.
• Personal and Commercial Lines product knowledge.
• Strong written communication skills.
• Investigation, mitigation, and negotiation skills.
• Principles of Contracts and Contract Law.
