Full-Time Mining Forensic Engineering Principal

Job Description

Purpose:

The Mining Forensic Engineering Principal will report directly into the CEO of the firm and is responsible for all aspects of the company’s mining forensic engineering group development activities. The Principal of Mining Forensic Engineering will focus on the structuring and operation of the product development mining forensic engineering function as a cohesive unit; the conceptualizing and day-to-day management of simultaneous projects; delivering manufacturable designs to agreed specifications within time and budget constraints, and the fostering of innovative solutions to customer needs.

Role responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Developing a “Mining Forensic Engineering” practice group within 30 Forensic Engineering;
  • Investigating, documenting and reporting on mining equipment, ore processing and facility failures/incidents.
  • Providing engineering insight and direction on remediation requirements after incidents have occurred with the objective of getting mining equipment/sites back up to full production in a cost effective and timely manner.
  • Communicating the findings of investigations in a clear, concise, and timely manner to non-technical clients in the insurance and litigation.
  • Acting as an expert witness in court proceedings.
  • Creating, communicating, and implementing the organization’s vision, mission, and overall direction.
  • Recruit employees, assign, direct, and evaluate their work, and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
  • Leading, guiding, directing, and evaluating the work of other leaders including assistant vice presidents, directors, and managers.
  • Formulating and implementing the strategic plan that guides the direction of the business or their area of responsibility.
  • Achieving the organization’s overall strategic goals and profitability requirements as determined by the strategic plans.
  • Forming, staffing, guiding, leading, and managing an organization sufficient to accomplish the vice president’s responsibilities and job requirements.
  • Overseeing the complete operation of an organization in accordance with the direction established in the strategic plans.
  • Evaluating the success of the organization.
  • Maintaining awareness of both the external and internal competitive landscape, opportunities for expansion, customers, markets, new industry developments and standards, and so forth.

  • Be a student of current industry trends, ensuring that the company maintains and expands its technology leadership position.
  • Motivate staff and provide technical direction and guidance, as well as hands-on project management, recognizing the role as that of manager and support resource / mentor.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of work experience, ideally in a consulting environment.
  • Currently registered as a P.Eng. (Ontario)
  • Extensive experience with mining equipment, ore processing/extraction processes, and a variety of mine environments
  • Failure analysis/investigation experience is preferred
  • Able to work effectively as part of a diverse engineering team including mechanical, materials, geotechnical, and structural engineers
  • Excellent technical writing skills a must
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients
  • Good presentation skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Willing to travel worldwide on short notice to investigate mining incidents;
