Full-Time Manager, Underwriting Service Centre

Job Description

Position Summary:

Reporting to the VP, Technology & Operations, manages operations activities for UA support team within Canada. Develops and monitors operating and quality standards for unit. Manages staff including hiring, training/development and evaluation/adjustment of performance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages a team of Underwriting Assistants including the valuation and prioritization of work, assigning tasks, and monitoring quality and progress of direct reports.
    • Ability to manage existing and developing technology domains and platforms, including, Genius, B2B, Underwriting Platform, PQM Tool, First Party UW Platform Global Clearance and Submissions, Liberty Mutual legacy systems (e.g. BART); self-service UW BI Reporting Tools;
    • USC Team will manage submission work across all lines of LIU CAD business including, but not limited to Casualty (Auto, GL, Excess and EIL); First Party (Marine, Energy, Construction); Specialty Casualty (Professional Liability, D&O, Crisis Management, Fidelity) and ARM (Fronted Business, Surety, Worker’s Comp).
  • Develops and monitors operating and quality standards for unit. Supports operations functions (customer service, applications, performance metrics, analysis etc.)
  • Drives consistency and adoption throughout the organization by ensuring processes and policies are followed.
  • Provides input to overall process development, implementation and automation in conjunction with technology innovation and ongoing skills training.
  • Oversees and manages the hiring, training/development and evaluation/adjustment of performance for assigned team.
  • Forecasts staffing needs based on existing and emerging business line growth.
  • Promotes employee development through effective planning, coaching, mentoring, training, and facilitation of cross-training.
  • Projects and tracks budgets for department.
  • Prepares reports for management as requested.
  • Special projects as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • 5 years management experience, ideally overseeing administrative staff.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, work independently, apply sound judgment, and manage multiple priorities effectively with appropriate urgency.
  • Ability to assign, direct, and evaluate the work of staff members, resulting in a high performing team.
  • Advanced skills in interpreting and applying policies and procedures.
  • Proven problem solving and organizational skills.
