Full-Time Intermediate Underwriter

Job Description

Responsibilities: Underwrite a portfolio of Transportation package policies. Works closely with brokers to develop and manage relationships in order to reach department and corporate goals for profitable growth. This individual will review underwrite risks for acceptability, within assigned authority levels and in accordance with company and underwriting guidelines. Delivers service and technical support to brokers, and advises brokers on our target market, products and services. Provides instructions to Underwriting Assistants for all GTS Transportation package policy transactions, including policy and endorsement issuance, and the processing of insurance filings. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible to assist other Underwriters with various underwriting tasks, liaise with Claims staff, and request and review Risk Solutions evaluations, as required.

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 5 years Commercial insurance experience (preference will be given to candidates with fleet and/or Transportation experience).
  • Completion of post-secondary education (University and /or college degree) is an asset
  • Working towards or the completion of three Insurance Institute CIP courses Automobile – C14, Automobile – C48, and Insurance Against Liability –C13 or equivalent, is preferred
  • Proficient knowledge of Automobile, Garage, Non-Owned Auto, and CGL coverage. In addition, knowledge of Cargo and Property coverage are an asset
  • Strong task management and organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong marketing and negotiation skills
  • Inquisitive and eager to learn
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Collaborative and team-oriented
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office, in particular Excel and Word
