Full-Time Equipment Breakdown Inspector, National Risk Engineering Services

Job Description

We are looking for a professional and ambitious Equipment Breakdown Inspector to join our National Risk Engineering Services (NRES).  The successful candidate will conduct jurisdictional inspections, identify and quantify areas of equipment-based risk, including potential areas of improvement, and share their expertise both internally and with our client base.  Take your career to the next level by developing your natural ability to see the big picture while evaluating the details, think creatively, and challenge the status quo, while working with some of the industry’s leading professionals.

 

Your Impact:

  • Provide equipment breakdown loss prevention expertise by conducting jurisdictional inspections, risk evaluations, claims investigations and other duties as assigned.
  • Conduct evaluations on commercial and industrial locations with equipment ranging from HVAC to boilers and pressure vessels, and production equipment.
  • Perform a variety of risk evaluation services conducted through site surveys and/or file reviews to identify and evaluate loss exposure, hazards and controls for risks including:
    • Ensuring appropriate documentation is supporting the survey/review
    • Visiting insureds operations to develop knowledge of the business, processes and operating methods
    • Determining the extent of the risks and controls that exist with each business, including safety management practices and compliance with applicable regulations
    • Offering solutions that take into account advanced risk management techniques
    • Consulting with current/prospective clients on loss control and prevention practices and develop solutions through collaborative fact finding and agreement with the customer
    • Providing detailed loss control reports which includes recommendations for updates/changes required to establish policy conditions and premiums
    • Preparing detailed specialized safety evaluation reports and recommendations to underwriting
  • Provide consultative risk improvement services to brokers and underwriters through
    • Reviewing, analyzing and updating existing loss control/prevention procedures
    • Completion of safety consultations
    • Development of recommendation and action plans for improving the risk
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of company underwriting standards and guidelines

 

Your Expertise:

  • A degree or diploma in Engineering, Applied Science, or related field , and/or industry related experience
  • 3- 5 years related insurance industry experience
  • All applicable provincial inspection certifications, such as a National Board Commission, is preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including report writing
  • A proactive self–starter and analytical thinker  with the ability to work independently under little direction
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships including a strong commitment to execute with a client focus
  • Ability to enter confined spaces as required
  • Ability to travel overnight as required
  • Must possess a valid driver’s licence
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications is an asset
