Course Facilitators/Instructors (Sessional CONTRACT) – Anywhere, Canada Wide

The Insurance Institute of Canada is seeking experienced course facilitators to lead asynchronous online courses in the following subjects:

1. Critical Thinking for Insurance Professionals

2. Business Foundations for Insurance Professionals

The opportunity to teach is offered on a contractual basis for the Winter 2016 semester (January to April), with the possibility of renewal for subsequent semesters.

Course Delivery and Resources

Both courses have been customized for professionals in the p&c insurance industry in Canada and are one semester in length. The courses are delivered online using Moodle, and each is supported by an undergraduate-level textbook and insurance-specific course material. The Institute supplies textbooks, supplementary readings, a course outline, suggested learning activities, and assessments.

The Facilitator Role

Facilitators are expected to foster the development of an effective online learning community; instruct on course content as required to ensure student understanding; facilitate discussion of the course content with the aid of the resources supplied; manage effective online communication and participation; provide formative feedback to all students; collaborate with the Institute regarding assessments; and grade student work.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred:

» An undergraduate degree and/or experience with the topics covered by the course

» Experience in and sound knowledge of the property and casualty insurance industry

» A CIP or FCIP designation

» Experience with web-based instructional delivery and a solid understanding of best practices
