Job Description
Position Title: Construction Production Underwriter
Location: Toronto
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Business Development
- Identify business development opportunities within each key broker’s book of business including the development of a prospects list for the region
- Conduct regular business development meetings with key brokers’ staff
- Search market for potential new brokerage contracts
- Underwrite new business as presented by a broker’s office
- Achieve assigned monthly sales goals
Marketing
- Market specialist products, services, and approach to business throughout the regional marketplace
- Introduce new products to market, including development and delivery of product presentations to all brokers
- Introduce and manage various marketing and sales initiative programs
- Develop an understanding of the regional market place and key customer segments
- Deliver product training and knowledge to key brokers as required
Broker Management
- Develop and implement regional marketing plan
- Maintain Regional Broker list, including systems updates
Customer Relationships
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers
- Market products and services, at customer conferences and trade shows
Underwriting
- Acquire and maintain senior level underwriting skills
- Underwrite and negotiate renewal of more complex accounts
- Underwrite and negotiate Project specific Coverage and annual Blanket Programs
- Provide technical training support to developing Underwriters
- Keep all portfolio management tools are up to date
- Ensure Customer Service Standards are consistently met
Portfolio Management
- Monitor each key Broker’s results semi-annually
- Monitor Underlying Portfolio results and adjust accordingly
- Report directly to Senior management
Skills, Education, Knowledge and Experience:
- Post-graduate degree or certification
- CIP/FCIP designation or in progress
- Developed knowledge and applied experience in the application of industry legislation and regulations; knowledge of industry objectives, trends and issues
- Minimum 5 years of commercial property and casualty underwriting experience
- Demonstrable sales and marketing experience
- Experience/exposure to financial management methods, the nature of insurance risk and reinsurance costs, underwriting, claims underwriting and reinsurance
- Demonstrable proficiency in underwriting basic to moderately complex books of commercial property and casualty products, including underwriting coverage, pricing, production and delivery, risk management and managing local brokerage plans
- Knowledge and applied experience in connecting personal results to the management of loss ratios, gross written and earned premium
