As a Claims Specialist, you will play a critical role in handling and resolving claims for the Claim’s team. You will work closely with your manager and fellow Claims colleagues to drive files to resolution and will interact and collaborate frequently with Regional Practice Leaders and the Underwriting team. Together, you will be tasked with achieving the best possible outcomes for the company and its clients by resolving and settling claims proactively.

 

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Providing thoughtful and comprehensive coverage analysis on all new matters and acting as a resource to our underwriting team for wording and account reviews.
  • Evaluating settlement value and negotiating claims and litigated matters within authority as well as participating in mediations and settlement conferences.  Consistently employing strategic litigation management skills throughout the life of all claims.
  • Analyzing claim trends and establishing, adjusting, or recommending reserves.
  • Identifying and implementing process enhancements to effectively provide timely and fair claims resolution through leveraging available resources, technology and continuing education, training and vendor management.
  • Taking ownership of the account-specific auditing and record keeping processes, developing and executing upon effective audit protocols.  Ensuring all financial transactions are properly tracked and maintaining easily accessible reports related to all facets of claim handling.
  • Taking an active role in the development of educational material and loss prevention measures for policyholders and agents.  Facilitating the delivery of this material through public speaking engagements and individual consultation.
  • Maintaining a high-quality relationship with policyholders and agents by maintaining frequent contact and being responsive to their needs.  Promptly and thoroughly reviewing contracts as requested by policyholders and agents.
  • Participate in marketing and promotional activities as needed.  Some public speaking.

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

  • Fluently bilingual in both official languages (French & English).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Representative’s Certificate for Commercial-lines claims adjustment in compliance with AMF requirements.
  • A minimum 5 years of progressive experience in professional liability/liability insurance claims.
  • Strong proficiencies with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook in a Windows/LAN environment.
  • Strong analytical and sound judgment skills with the ability to take initiative and to work independently.
  • Customer Service: High dedication to client, team and vendor relations evidencing professionalism and
  • Diplomacy in all situations.
  • Strong communication: Excellent verbal and written communication in both official languages, collaboration, presentation and influencing skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ethical approach: Have an impeccable reputation for ethics, integrity and the highest standards of professionalism.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required. MBA preferred. LLB preferred.  CIP or FCIP professional designation preferred. CRM professional designation preferred.
  • Travel: Travel is anticipated at approximately 20% of the time or greater.
