Full-Time Claims Adjuster
Job Description
The Sovereign General Insurance Company is looking for a diligent and polished junior Claims Adjuster to join our Halifax Office. Our ideal candidate will utilize their strong sense of urgency, excellent customer service skills and attention to detail to successfully adjust and occasionally examine claims. Working alongside more experienced team members, the incumbent will be responsible for handling/monitoring claims in legal proceedings, negotiating, and settling claims, as well as participating in alternative dispute resolution.
Your Impact:
- Set up and investigate claims as assigned within authority level
- Direct handling of claim, along with providing control and direction to adjusters, appraisers, and solicitors to ensure adjusting and litigation programs advance in a timely manner
- Refer claims in excess of authority through appropriate internal channels to establish coverage eligibility
- Review and interpret the insurance policy wordings and loss information
- Process payments, recoveries and reserve changes within authority level
- Report on reserve loss and expenses within established guidelines
- Liaise, collaborate and maintain good relationships with the underwriting team, submitting risk information where appropriate
- Establish and maintain constructive relationships with brokers, service providers, contractors and other external contacts
- Maintain extensive knowledge of insurance coverage, settlement methods, procedure, investigation methods, and creative negotiation skills and file management
- Provide information as required and report on claims trends
- Other duties as required in support of the Claims’ Team mission
Your Expertise:
- Minimum 1-2 years commercial claims experience
- An interest in commercial auto property damage, bodily injury and accident benefits
- CIP designation or current enrollment an asset
- Organized, efficient and able to work in a face paced environment
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Strong team-player who enjoys working collaboratively to execute with a focus on the client
- Professional with exceptional customer service skills
- Analytical with strong negotiation and decision-making skills
