Full-Time Bodily Injury Telephone Adjuster
Job Description
The BI Telephone adjuster investigates, monitors, negotiates and settles automobile and/ or property bodily injury claims through direct contact with claimants and/ or their legal representatives.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
- Investigate losses by ordering appropriate reports from city and/ or various organizations and obtain statements from insured’s, witnesses and police to determine liability.
- Strong knowledge of the Minor Injury Regulation, Insurance Act of Alberta, Traffic Safety Act, Tort Law, the Intercompany Agreement and other relevant legislation.
- Analyze medical, vocational and financial information in order to determine eligibility for settlement on legislative criteria; interpret insurance contracts to determine policy coverage.
- Establish rapport with claimants through face-to-face meeting whenever possible in order to resolve matters in the most equitable manner possible.
- Negotiate in person, by telephone and by letter directly with insureds, other adjusters claimants and directly with plaintiff counsel.
- Process payments and obtain necessary releases in a timely manner.
- Represent the company in a respectful and professional manner, applying the principal of good faith in all of your dealings.
- Handle objective injuries outside of the Minor Injury Regulations.
- Knowledge of legal principles and research of relevant case law as they pertain to bodiliy injury claims.
- Understand the litigation process.
- Handle investigative claims including homeowners, farm and commercial liability.
- Participate at private mediation, court proceedings and other dispute resolution processes. Remain up to date through legal and vendor seminars regarding changes to legislation and trends in the insurance industry.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Degree/ Diploma/ Certificate at an accredited post secondary institute.
- Actively working towards or completion of the CIP designation.
- 3-5 years related experience within insurance or related industry.
- Valid Alberta Driver’s License.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Critical thinking: using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and/ or approaches to problems.
- Energetic and self-directed with effective time-management and organizational skills, detail oriented.
- Full working knowledge of MS applications
