Service Centre Intermediate Underwriter,Group Insurance

(Bilingual, French)

As a Service Centre Underwriter you will respond to all group personal lines automobile and residential insurance telephone and email inquiries from customers across Canada. You will contribute to the profitable growth of the company by using underwriting skills and judgment to process and underwrite moderately complex files by recognizing and evaluating hazards, minimizing risk, establishing rating criteria and determining proper policy terms and conditions according to the company’s auto and property underwriting guidelines and within binding authority limits.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to:

•Respond and fulfill existing and prospective customers’ insurance needs in a customer care environment.
•Provide expert customer service and an exceptional client experience.
•Communicate with customers via phone or email in a timely and effective manner.
•Sell (including up-selling and cross-selling) personal lines insurance products to customers across Canada, and obtain prospects (x-dates), in order to contribute to profitable growth.
•Qualify clients and ensure that sufficient underwriting information is obtained to assess exposure, ensure risk eligibility and rating adequacy.
•Process applications, order and review various reports (MVR, Autoplus, HITS, RCT, etc.), and underwriting questionnaires to determine degree of risk and acceptability of risk. Secure additional information if needed.
•Recommend insurance coverage and suggest/promote alternative products or services.
•Underwrite moderately complex personal lines insurance risks (broker & direct) and process new business transactions, endorsements, renewals and cancellations. Assess and evaluate risks in order to accept, modify, or reject insurance contracts in accordance with company objectives, underwriting policies, standards & procedures, applicable laws & regulations, and within established authority level, in order to develop and retain profitable business.
•Review all relevant claims reports, secure additional information as required, and take appropriate underwriting actions to ensure company standards are upheld.
•Provide technical and underwriting advice to team members.
•Maintain insurance licenses in all provinces where we write business.

Your Skills
•Post- secondary education
•Working towards or have a Chartered Insurance Professional designation
•At least 1 year of experience in a similar role would be preferredSpecific Experience/Requirements and Working Conditions
•Bilingual in written and spoken English & French preferred.
•Excellent written and verbal skills in order to respond to inquiries or complaints.
•Customer service and/or sales experience.
•Ontario OTL license or other provincial/territorial licenses preferred
•Knowledge of personal lines insurance guidelines and products.
•Computer literate with good keyboard skills.
•Detail oriented multi tasking, using system support tools.
•Excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
•Ability to work in and support a team-based environment.
•Must be able to work Monday to Friday between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and be flexible to accommodate an earlier shift if required
